Attention Authors and Publishers! Are you affected by the Google Book Settlement?

4/29/2009

You may have received notice that your rights may be affected by a class action settlement regarding Google's Digitization of Books and Other writings.

As you also may know, a proposed settlement has been reached on behalf of a class of all owners of U.S. copyrights in books and in writings included in books and other works published on or before January 5, 2009. Books published after January 5, 2009 are not included.

Do you know what this proposed settlement means to you and what you should be doing to claim your works and protect your rights? Lommen Abdo attorneys can help you review your rights and create an action plan to claim your works in the settlement. We can also assist you in evaluating your option to opt out of the class action settlement. If you do not opt out of the settlement, you will be considered a class member and subject to the terms of the proposed settlement (once approved).

The deadline to opt out of the settlement was previously given as May 5, 2009. But, according to news sources and now confirmed by the official Google Book Settlement website: "The Opt-Out Deadline has been extended from May 5, 2009 to September 4, 2009 (now called the Extended Opt-Out Deadline). The Final Fairness Hearing has been rescheduled from June 11, 2009 to October 7, 2009."
