Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival
5/1/2006
Lommen Abdo sponsored client Ali Selim's independent feature film "Sweet Land," the closing night film for the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival on Sunday, April 30th. The film played to an enthusiastic sold-out / turn-them-away audience of over 700 people at the Riverside Theater in South Minneapolis. The story of the film takes place after WWI in northern Minnesota. A Norwegian farmer and his mail order bride from Norway (who turns out to be German) struggled to put together a life in the face of community prejudice against the German immigrant. Ali Selim, the filmmaker, was introduced by Dan Satorius. Former Governor, Wendell Andersen, gave an award to Ned Beatty who also starred in the film, and Mr. Beatty was present to introduce the film and for Q&A. Lommen Abdo also sponsored the closing night party, which was well attended.
