Stacey DeKalb Offered Negotiation Tips at 2005 Women's Expo

Stacey DeKalb, chair of Lommen Nelson’s Employment Law Practice, offered tips on negotiations at the 2005 Cub Women’s Expo, which returned to the Minneapolis Convention Center January 14, 15, and 16, 2005. This event has grown into one of the largest women’s events in the country, with attendance reaching over 50,000 last year.

Ms. DeKalb spoke at 2 p.m., Friday, January 14th, on the Women’s Business Minnesota stage on "Proven Negotiation Strategies: An Attorney’s Perspective:"

Each day we negotiate for things of varying scope and importance in our work life and personal life. Much has been written and said about how to handle such negotiations more effectively – but often its all theory. This session will offer the practical insights of employment lawyer Stacey A. DeKalb who has worked in the area of employment negotiations for over 20 years. Ms. DeKalb will offer suggestions for engaging in negotiations with a strategic mindset.

Ms. DeKalb is an experienced litigator and counselor, whose practice includes issues such as harassment, discrimination (sex, race, age, disability and other), wrongful termination, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, wage and hour issues, contract issues, whistle-blowing, drafting and negotiating executive severance packages, hiring issues, drafting and implementation of policies and procedures, among other employment matters. She is experienced in both state and federal courts and with the EEOC, various state departments and local Civil Rights Commissions. Ms. DeKalb is admitted to practice in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. She resides in Plymouth, Minnesota, with her husband and two children. She is active with various youth organizations and is a member of the board of directors for the YWCA of Minneapolis and the board of directors of Lommen Nelson Law Firm.

The expo featured over 400 exhibits and many great stages, including three health stages. These health stages covered interesting topics about working out, healthy foods and women’s health issues. On the Cub Foods Stage, Women’s Expo attendees were treated to a wide range of informative presentations. Food specialists gave informative cooking tips for easy meal solutions and experienced health care professionals offered informative question-and-answer sessions on women’s health. Cub Floral experts demonstrated bouquet and floral techniques for use on special occasions.

The Women’s Expo also brought great entertainment. Last year it had theatrical productions from Hey City Theatre, Plymouth Playhouse and Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. Women’s Expo is an all around entertainment experience under one roof!

The Cub Women’s Expo this year featured more than 90 vendors that were part of the Parade of Foods area. The Parade of Foods featured presentations and new product samples from a long list of recognizable food manufacturers. In addition, Cub presented and sampled from its vast assortment of deli, produce, bakery and private-label products available at Twin Cities area Cub Foods stores. Cub Foods also offered a pharmacy area featuring free women’s health information and complimentary health screenings, including body composition analysis, blood pressure testing, bone density measurement and facial skin analysis.
