Hearing Before Minnesota Supreme Court at Hutchinson

11/1/2006

APAC v. Ardmor was heard before the Minnesota Supreme Court on October 11, 2006. The hearing took place at Hutchinson High School as part of the Supreme Court's "Traveling Oral Arguments" program. The entire high school was in attendance, and the students were able to ask questions after the arguments – but not about the case. During the hearing, the justices had many questions of their own about tough issues such as the district court's authority to set the days and hours APAC and others could leaflet at Ardmor, whether the scope of the restrictions extend to political candidates and trick-or-treators, and whether First Amendment principles apply by analogy or otherwise in light of the statute. Kay faced some tough questions but did a terrific job! Barry O'Neil, Valerie Sims, Bryan Feldhaus and Brett Clark were also in attendance.
