Lommen Abdo Announces New Leaders of Business Law Group

Tom Dougherty and Dan Young have been appointed co-chairs of Lommen Abdo's Business Law Group. Lommen Abdo continues to expand its legal capabilities and expertise in the areas of closely held business, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, financing and securities, tax, real estate/land use and entertainment-related law in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Both Tom and Dan will continue to serve as outside general counsel to individual business owners and a wide range of closely-held and family-owned businesses providing counsel on:
 
  • buy-sell agreements and member control agreements,
  • corporate and venture finance,
  • mergers and acquisitions,
  • joint and strategic alliances,
  • shareholder and board of director matters,
  • contract negotiations and disputes, and
  • other complex business matters.

Tom and Dan also serve as the point persons for litigation related to these issues.

Margie Bodas, Lommen Abdo's Vice President of Practice Management, said that the firm is taking several strategic steps to increase its footprint in the area of closely held and family owned businesses. Lommen Abdo is committed to providing effective and efficient counsel across the legal spectrum to such operations, serving in a role similar to in-house counsel for those companies who either are not ready to hire their own in-house counsel or who choose not to do so. The firm will also continue to provide educational seminars on closely-held and family-owned business issues, drilling down on issues raised and discussed briefly at the Closely Held Business Seminar held at Elsie's Restaurant Bar & Bowling Center last October. More than 100 people attended that seminar. Bob Abdo, former chair of the Business Law Group, is taking on other additional firm responsibilities as an executive vice president and has turned the reins of the corporate group over to Tom and Dan. Bob is Chair of Lommen Abdo's Estate Planning Group and continues to act as general counsel to clients, practicing business law, including mergers and acquisitions, entity formation, finance and securities, real estate and executive deferred compensation.
