We are proud to announce that Lommen Abdo attorneys John Crawford and Lauren Nuffort have been hard at work co-editing and authoring chapters of the 2021 update of the 5th edition of the Minnesota Insurance Law Deskbook, published July 9, 2021. The 26 chapter Deskbook is a practical, authoritative resource on Minnesota insurance coverage issues, including general issues such as rules of construction and policy interpretation, reservation of rights, duties of the insured and insurer, and more specific insurance coverages such as automobile insurance, homeowners’ insurance, commercial general liability insurance, and professional liability insurance, among others. Additionally, Lommen Abdo attorneys Barry O’Neil, Kay Nord Hunt, Michelle Kuhl and Jim Krause co-authored chapters of the Deskbook.

John Crawford has been serving as editor of the Deskbook since its inception in 1997, and now, with the help of co-editor Lauren Nuffort and all of the experienced authors of the 26 chapters, he hopes to continue the tradition of providing attorneys and claims professionals with the most comprehensive resource on Minnesota insurance coverage law. John also authored chapter six of the Deskbook, “Duty to Defend.”

Lauren Nuffort has been serving as a co-editor with John Crawford since the 5th Edition was released in 2019.  She has also authored two chapters, “Misrepresentation or Omission in Applications for Insurance” and “Fire and Property Insurance.” She said of her work on the Deskbook: “It was a pleasure to work on such a comprehensive and authoritative insurance law resource. I am passionate about my work in insurance law and I hope this Deskbook provides valuable insight into this area of law to my colleagues. I enjoyed working closely with John Crawford and all the authors and co-authors of the Deskbook chapters.”

Co-Authoring Chapters

Barry O’Neil, who co-authored the chapter titled “Agent and Broker Liability” with Jason Hill, Kennedy & Graven, is excited to get the updated Deskbook in the hands of insurance attorneys, noting that the updated 5th edition includes updates on the impact of COVID-19 in various areas of insurance law, making it extremely relevant to the legal climate today.

Kay Nord Hunt and Michelle Kuhl, Lommen Abdo’s powerhouse appellate attorneys, co-authored chapter 14, “Select Commercial General Liability Policy Exclusions.”

Jim Krause, co-author of Chapter 19 with Danielle Parry of Minnesota Lawyers Mutual (MLM), said this of his involvement, “I was excited to partner with MLM’s Danielle Parry to contribute to the Insurance Law Deskbook’s chapter titled “Professional Liability Claims-Made Coverage” given Danielle’s unique experience as an MLM claims attorney. She has handled a multitude of claims made against attorneys in Minnesota and surrounding states, and I added my own experience as a part of Lommen Abdo’s professional liability practice group. We are thrilled to provide Minnesota attorneys with a focused reference into this area of law.”

Congratulations on the Hard Work

Congratulations to all the authors and co-authors of the updated Minnesota CLE Insurance Law Deskbook, and especially to John Crawford and Lauren Nuffort for your hours of work co-editing and authoring this comprehensive reference guide. Lommen Abdo attorneys are dedicated not only to their clients, but to educating and informing their peers through resources such as this.
