Matt Hartranft is admitted in Minnesota state court.

During his years as a banker and a small business owner, Matt learned what it is like to juggle competing demands while wearing many hats. He takes a practical approach to meeting a business owner’s goals and priorities while putting together the best possible deal.

Matt works closely with management to assemble transactions for a wide range of businesses and ESOPs in the areas of business transactions, shareholder/owner disputes, leveraged buy-outs and mergers and acquisitions for buying and selling business ownership interests and assets. In the process he counsels his clients throughout every stage of planning, negotiating, contracting and closing the deal. Then he continues to help with any lingering details and post-closing discussions. Matt enjoys working with a growing number of emerging and growth stage companies and is passionate about helping entrepreneurs.

As a banker Matt became convinced that effective businesses are the foundation of successful, prosperous communities. His passion for working with emerging and closely-held companies was born during his time in third-world economic rescue operations. It began in Venezuela in the early 2000s. He was co-founder of an NGO that rescued families and businesses in the Philippines after a devastating tsunami in 2013. He continues such rescue work by serving on the board of a private charity in St. Paul, building dozens of schools, hospitals, roads and farms in rural Bolivia. Matt’s writing on the subject of micro-economics and third-world rescue operations has appeared in various venues in Asia and the US. His work in the Philippines inspired a report by the Warton School of Business and subsequently, significant changes at Kickstarter through which much of the rescue was funded.

Dedicated to sharing his legal knowledge with others, since beginning his practice, Matt has written and presented papers on various legal topics. Prior to joining Lommen Abdo, Matt practiced in Minneapolis at the firm of Fabyanske, Westra, Hart & Thomson, P.A. Matt is active in professional organizations including the American Bar, the Minnesota State Bar, and the Hennepin and Ramsey County Bar Associations.

Outside of his practice, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids, is an avid cyclist and is passionate about helping people unite with their communities and discover Minnesota’s trails and wilderness in every way they can.
